Jobber Pricing Permissions: Who Can Change Prices?

October 19, 2026 · Pricebookr Team Jobberprice bookpermissions

In Jobber, only admin users can edit the Products & Services list, but anyone with edit access to quotes, jobs or invoices plus the Show Pricing permission can change a line item's price on that quote, job or invoice. Jobber's permissions control who sees prices and who edits each kind of work. Its User Permissions help article (updated August 19, 2026) lists no separate setting that locks a line item's unit price.

This guide explains who can change prices in Jobber and what each preset permission level allows. It also shows how much margin a quiet price edit costs and how to check whether quoted prices still match your price book.

Who can edit the Products & Services list in Jobber?

The Products & Services list is Jobber's saved price list. Each saved item has a name, description and unit price, plus a unit cost and markup on select plans. Jobber's User Permissions article puts this list in the admin-only settings, next to company settings, Jobber Payments settings and team management. To make someone an admin, you check Make Administrator on their user page. Only admins can change anyone's permission settings.

So the master list is protected by default. A technician can't open Settings and raise or lower the saved price of a capacitor replacement unless you made them an admin.

There is one exception to check. If Jobber syncs with QuickBooks Online, Jobber's Products & Services article says items need to be edited in QuickBooks. That means whoever can edit items in QuickBooks also controls your Jobber prices. Which system owns items depends on your integration version, covered in Jobber QuickBooks price list sync.

Can technicians change prices on Jobber quotes and invoices?

Yes, if they have both pricing and edit access. Jobber's Show Pricing permission lets a user see prices on quotes, invoices and job line items. It also has to be on before they can create or edit quotes, invoices or job line items. To edit line items on a quote, a user needs view-and-edit access to quotes plus Show Pricing. The same pattern applies to jobs and invoices.

Once both are on, the user is editing the line item, not the saved item. Jobber's help article lists no separate permission for changing a line item's unit price. That is the gap behind searches like "how to have pricing edit privilege on Jobber". In Jobber, editing a quote and editing its prices are the same permission.

Jobber offers four preset permission levels plus admin. This is what each one allows for pricing, according to Jobber's help article:

Jobber permission levelSees pricesCreates and edits quotes, jobs, invoicesEdits Products & Services list
Field crewNoNo (own schedule, notes, photos, timers)No
Senior field crewYesYesNo
Crew leadYesYes, plus everyone's schedule and timesheetsNo
ManagerYesYes, plus reports and marketing toolsNo
Admin (Make Administrator)YesYesYes

Other field-service platforms handle this differently. ServiceTitan's pricebook permissions (updated October 16, 2026) include separate Edit Service Price, Edit Material Price and Edit Equipment Price permissions for invoices and estimates. Housecall Pro's roles article (updated September 14, 2026) ties field line-item edits to its "Add/edit jobs" permission, much like Jobber.

How much margin does a field price change cost?

A price edited on a quote never shows up in the Products & Services list. Your saved price stays at $298, and the client gets $250. The worked example below uses one flat-rate task with a $134 cost (materials plus labor) and a $298 catalog price, a 55% gross margin. These are illustrative numbers, not industry benchmarks.

Price on the quoteCut from catalog priceGross profitGross marginShare of planned profit lost
$298 (catalog)0%$16455.0%0%
$2757.7%$14151.3%14.0%
$25016.1%$11646.4%29.3%
$22524.5%$9140.4%44.5%

A 16% price cut removes 29% of the job's gross profit, because the cost doesn't move when the price does. If margin and markup blur together, markup vs margin for contractors explains the difference, and the margin and markup calculator runs your own numbers. The true cost of discounting covers the volume needed to recover a discount.

How should a contractor set up Jobber permissions for pricing?

Start from who is allowed to decide a price, not from job titles. Most shops land on something like this:

Two habits reduce price drift more than any setting. First, quote from saved items instead of typing custom line items. Jobber treats a typed line that wasn't saved to the list as a one-off custom item, so it's easy to price by memory. Second, keep the saved list current so techs have no reason to adjust. Changing a saved item doesn't update line items already on quotes, jobs or invoices, so an out-of-date list shows up on every new quote. Jobber flat rate pricing covers building task prices that hold up in the field.

How can you tell if quoted prices still match your price book?

Jobber's Products and Services report (Insights → Reports → Products and Services) shows how often each item was quoted, scheduled and invoiced in a date range, and the dollar value for each. For flat-rate tasks normally sold at a quantity of one, divide the invoiced amount by the times invoiced to get an average invoiced price, then compare it with the saved price.

The month below is a labeled worked example, not real shop data:

Saved itemCatalog priceTimes invoicedInvoiced amountAverage invoiced priceDifference
Replace AC run capacitor$18924$4,476$186.50-1.3%
Condensate drain line flush$14931$4,154$134.00-10.1%
Install standard thermostat$26512$3,180$265.000.0%
Replace furnace igniter$2459$1,890$210.00-14.3%

A small gap like -1.3% is usually one goodwill adjustment. Gaps of -10% and -14% on routine tasks point to a price techs don't believe in, a competitor they're matching, or a permission that's wider than it needs to be. Look at those quotes before changing anyone's access. Sometimes the saved price is the problem. This review fits naturally into a regular price book audit.

Where does a master price book fit with Jobber permissions?

Jobber's permissions protect the saved list and control who sees prices. They don't give different people different price lists, and each saved item carries one unit price. A master price book handles that layer before prices reach Jobber.

In Pricebookr, members are Admin, Sales or Field. You grant view or edit access to each pricebook, such as retail or wholesale, and decide per member whether they see cost, markup and margin. Field members can see the catalog but not change it. Only an admin can connect Jobber, push prices to it, roll an item back or read the audit log. The pricebooks and role-based access guide covers the setup. Pricebookr doesn't lock what a user types on a Jobber quote, so Jobber's own permissions still matter in the field.

FAQ

Can I stop a Jobber user from seeing prices?

Yes. Turn off the Show Pricing permission, or use the Field crew preset, which hides pricing and costs. Show Pricing must be on before a user can create or edit quotes, invoices or job line items, so a user without it can't build quotes or invoice. Without pricing, they can still mark work complete, add notes and photos, and track time.

Can a non-admin edit the Products & Services list in Jobber?

Not according to Jobber's User Permissions article, which lists the Products & Services list among the admin-only settings. Non-admins with the right permissions can still use saved items on quotes, jobs and invoices. If Jobber syncs with QuickBooks Online, check your integration version, because item edits may belong in QuickBooks instead.

Does Jobber have a permission just for changing line-item prices?

Jobber's help article lists none as of its August 19, 2026 update. Editing line items on a quote needs view-and-edit access to quotes plus Show Pricing, and the same pattern applies to jobs and invoices. ServiceTitan, by comparison, documents separate Edit Service Price, Edit Material Price and Edit Equipment Price permissions for estimates and invoices.

If I change a saved price in Jobber, do existing quotes update?

No. Jobber says updating or deleting a saved product or service doesn't change that line item on any quote, job or invoice where it was already added. New line items pick up the new price. Open quotes and recurring jobs keep the old price until someone edits those lines, so review them after a price increase.
