# Hide Unit Prices on Jobber Quotes: Settings and $0 Lines

**To hide unit prices on Jobber quotes, uncheck "Show unit price on line items" in Client Document Settings for all future quotes, or click Change under Client view to hide them on a single quote.** Jobber lets you hide quantities, unit prices, line item totals and the totals footer separately. It does not hide individual line items or roll several lines into one price, so a single price per task has to come from how the item is built in your price book.

This guide covers where each setting lives, what a customer sees under three common setups, how to show a waived diagnostic as a $0 line, and why hiding a number on the PDF never hides it from your margin math.

## Can you hide unit prices on Jobber quotes?

Yes. Jobber's [Client Document Settings help article](https://help.getjobber.com/en/articles/client-document-settings/) (updated September 24, 2026) lists a separate checkbox for each column on the Quotes tab: "Show QTY on line items", "Show unit price on line items", "Show total cost per line item" and "Show totals & tax in footer". The path is Gear icon → Settings → Business Profile → Client Document Settings → Edit settings → Quotes.

Two limits matter. First, the account setting only applies to future quotes; Jobber says already created PDFs "will not be changed retroactively", so quotes you have already built keep their old columns until you edit each one. Second, the Invoices tab has its own copy of the same checkboxes. Hiding unit prices on quotes does not hide them on the invoice the job turns into.

| Client view field | Quotes tab | Invoices tab | What unchecking it does |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Quantity (Show QTY on line items) | Yes | Yes | Removes the quantity from each line |
| Unit price | Yes | Yes | Removes the per-unit price; the line total can still show |
| Total cost per line item | Yes | Yes | Removes each line's dollar amount |
| Totals and tax in footer | Yes | Not listed | Removes the subtotal, tax and total block on quotes |
| Account balance | Not listed | Yes | Removes the client's running balance on invoices |
| Internal unit cost and markup | Never shown | Never shown | Nothing to change: clients only ever see the selling price |

## How do you hide unit prices on one Jobber quote?

Use the per-quote override when one customer, such as a commercial account or a property manager, needs a different layout from your default. Jobber's help article gives these steps:

1. Open the quote and select Edit.
2. Click the pencil icon in the Product / Service section.
3. Choose Change under Client view.
4. Check or uncheck quantities, unit prices, line item totals and totals.
5. Select Save.

Before sending, check the result with More Actions → Preview as, which Jobber's [Markups on Quotes article](https://help.getjobber.com/en/articles/markups-on-quotes/) recommends for seeing the quote the way the client will. Jobber's [Quote Basics article](https://help.getjobber.com/en/articles/quote-basics/) (updated July 27, 2026) also notes that a quote supports up to 100 line items, so a long quote with every column showing gets hard to read fast.

## Which Jobber client view setup should a contractor use?

Most service contractors land on one of three setups. The table below is a **worked example, not a benchmark**: an HVAC repair quote with four lines (a waived diagnostic at $0, a dual run capacitor at $245, a contactor at $225 and a condenser coil cleaning at $149, all quantity 1) totaling $619 before tax.

| Setup (worked example) | Boxes checked | Capacitor line as the customer sees it | Bottom of the quote |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Full detail | Quantity, unit price, line total, totals | Quantity 1, unit price $245.00, line total $245.00 | $619.00 plus tax |
| Line totals only | Line total, totals | $245.00 | $619.00 plus tax |
| Lump sum | Totals only | Name and description, no amount | $619.00 plus tax |

**Line totals only** suits flat-rate shops. When nearly every line is quantity 1, the unit price and line total are the same number printed twice, and hiding the unit column removes clutter without hiding anything the customer cares about. If you price this way, our guide to [Jobber flat rate pricing](https://www.pricebookr.com/blog/jobber-flat-rate-pricing) covers building each task as one item.

**Lump sum** suits project-style quotes, such as a full system replacement, where line prices invite the customer to pick apart labor and parts. The lines still list what is included by name and description, which is what the customer needs to approve the scope.

**Full detail** suits time-and-materials work and commercial customers who audit invoices line by line.

## Can Jobber hide individual line items or bundle them into one price?

Not natively. In a [Jobber Community thread on hidden subtotals](https://community.getjobber.com/discussions/quoting/request-for-quote-building-using-hidden-subtotals/7737), a contractor asked to show each task's price while hiding its labor and material lines. Jobber Support pointed to the client document settings and said the sub-line item request had been passed to the product team. One member's workaround was to build the quote, note the total, and delete the detail lines before sending.

Deleting lines has a cost: the parts and labor that produced the price disappear from the quote, along with any unit costs Jobber would use for its margin estimate. By comparison, ServiceTitan's help center documents [hiding individual line items on estimates](https://help.servicetitan.com/docs/hide-line-items-on-estimates) while keeping them in the internal view.

The cleaner Jobber answer is to put the bundle in the price book. Save the task as one Product or Service whose unit price already includes the labor and parts, with a unit cost that reflects the whole build-up. The quote then needs one line, and nothing has to be deleted. If you sell repair and upgrade options side by side, Jobber's optional line items (listed as a Grow plan feature in Quote Basics) work the same way; see [good-better-best pricing for contractors](https://www.pricebookr.com/blog/good-better-best-pricing-for-contractors) for how to space the options.

## How do you show a no-charge diagnostic or $0 line item in Jobber?

Add the diagnostic as its own line with a unit price of $0 and a description that says why, for example "Diagnostic waived with approved repair (regular $89)". With unit prices and line totals hidden, that line shows only its name and description, which avoids a column of $0.00 amounts while still telling the customer the visit had value. With line totals showing, the $0.00 makes the waiver visible, which some shops prefer.

Whether to waive the fee at all is a pricing decision, not a display one; our guide on [whether to charge a diagnostic fee](https://www.pricebookr.com/blog/should-you-charge-a-diagnostic-fee) covers that. Whichever you choose, keep the item's internal unit cost filled in. A free line still used an hour of a technician's time.

## Does hiding prices on a Jobber quote hide your costs and margins?

Costs and markups were never visible to clients. Jobber's Markups on Quotes article says clients see only the marked-up unit price, and that total costs and estimated margin appear below the quote total for you alone. Jobber calculates that estimated margin as (price − cost of goods sold) ÷ price, so it reads lower than the markup percentage. Markups are available on select Jobber plans and to admin users.

The risk runs the other way: a hidden or $0 line with no cost entered makes the margin look better than it is. The worked example below uses the same four-line quote with assumed internal costs.

| Line (worked example) | Internal unit cost | Unit price | Gross margin |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Diagnostic (waived) | $38 | $0 | n/a (−$38) |
| Dual run capacitor | $72 | $245 | 70.6% |
| Contactor | $81 | $225 | 64.0% |
| Condenser coil cleaning | $54 | $149 | 63.8% |
| Quote total, diagnostic cost entered | $245 | $619 | 60.4% |
| Quote total, diagnostic cost left blank | $207 | $619 | 66.6% |

Leaving the $38 cost off the free line overstates this quote's margin by 6.2 points. Charging the regular $89 instead of waiving it would lift the quote to $708 and 65.4%. You can check any line with the [margin and markup calculator](https://www.pricebookr.com/tools/margin-markup-calculator), and [markup vs margin](https://www.pricebookr.com/blog/markup-vs-margin-for-contractors) explains why the two percentages differ. If many items in your list have blank costs, [Jobber price list missing costs](https://www.pricebookr.com/blog/jobber-price-list-missing-costs) shows how to find and fill them.

## Where do the prices on a Jobber quote come from?

Line items picked from Products & Services bring that item's saved unit price and unit cost onto the quote; custom lines typed on the spot do not. Hiding unit prices raises the stakes on that list. The customer can no longer see the per-unit math, so a stale price in Products & Services goes onto the quote without anyone noticing.

If you keep costs and prices outside Jobber, [Pricebookr](https://www.pricebookr.com/) holds the catalog and, on a push you confirm, writes each item's name, description, Product/Service type and selling price to the linked Jobber product, plus internal cost and markup when the Jobber account supports them ([push prices to Jobber](https://www.pricebookr.com/docs/push-prices-to-jobber) lists the plans). It does not change Jobber's client view settings; those stay in Jobber. Shops on Jobber Core or Connect can read [Jobber Core and Connect margins](https://www.pricebookr.com/blog/jobber-core-connect-margins) for tracking cost when Jobber cannot store it.

## FAQ

### Can I remove the unit price column from Jobber quotes?

Yes. Go to Settings → Business Profile → Client Document Settings → Edit settings → Quotes and uncheck "Show unit price on line items". That changes future quotes only. For a quote that already exists, open it, select Edit, click the pencil in Product / Service, choose Change under Client view, uncheck unit prices and save. Invoices have a separate checkbox on the Invoices tab.

### Can Jobber clients see my markup or unit cost?

No. Jobber's help center says markups and margins are internal and clients see only the marked-up unit price. The total cost and estimated margin shown under the quote total are visible only to your team while building or editing the quote. Hiding unit prices changes what the customer sees of the selling price; it has no effect on costs, which were never shown.

### Will changing Client Document Settings update quotes I already sent?

No. Jobber applies Client Document Settings to new quotes and invoices only, and says already created PDFs will not be changed retroactively. To change the layout of an existing quote, edit that quote and adjust its Client view checkboxes. Check the result with More Actions → Preview as before you resend it, so you see exactly what the customer will.

### Can I hide a single line item on a Jobber quote?

Not natively. Jobber's client view settings hide whole columns, such as quantities, unit prices and line totals, across every line on the quote. To show one price for a task that has several parts, save the task as one Product or Service whose unit price already includes labor and materials, then quote it as a single line instead of hiding its parts.
